A SONG ABOUT LOSS AND MEMORIES – WRITTEN AND SUNG BY MYSELF
Ten years ago, I lost my daughter, Cynthia, in a fire. She died with her husband and three-year-old son. I have written and recorded a song/video. It is about my experience living with loss. Cynthia was not only a loving mother, but she believed in doing good for her community. She donated to charities and helped children in her neighborhood. I believe that she would have been devastated by the recent findings of residential school children. To cope with my loss, I committed myself to carry on doing the good things that Cynthia did as I now feel that her spirit lives through me. I believe this song/video, to some degree, embodies what many parents go through at the loss of a child. I thought it might resonate for people thinking about the Indigenous children who died. Life as you know it no longer exists when you lose a child. You, you’re friends and even your family change into people you don’t recognize. When you give birth to a child, the word LOVE takes on a whole new meaning. If you lose a child, that love is overpowered by unbearable grief and pain that nobody can understand unless they’ve been there. Be kind and understanding… we are doing the best that we can. My first published novel was released one year ago today. It has been quite an experience. Thanks to everyone who has supported me thus far.
